STATE LEADERS, FAMILIES RALLY FOR INCREASED CHILDCARE FUNDING

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - State leaders and childcare advocacy organizations spent Saturday outside the State Capitol rallying for more funding for Wisconsin childcare services. Katy Dicks, a mother of two kids, was among several people who spoke. The Sun Prairie mom feels it’s been an ongoing struggle to afford childcare for her two children.

Rent prices continue to rise throughout the country, alongside inflation. Between March 2023 and March 2024, the annual U.S. inflation rate was 3.5%, compared to the previous rate of 3.2% for the 12 months ending February 2024. This is far from the peak 9.1% inflation rate in June 2022, but rent prices still increased in every U.S. region but the West over the past year, according to data from Rent.com. In the Midwest, the region with the most modest rent prices in the country, median prices rose 5.3% ― from $1,383 in March 2023 to $1,456 in March 2024. During this time, the median price nationwide went from $1,972 to $1,987. Midwestern states have seen the sharpest increases in rent prices this year. The region accounted for seven of the 10 states that saw the highest percentage gains in median rent price between March 2023 and March 2024. Read More
