Pyramid Model Framework

The Pyramid Model is an evidence-based framework used in early care and education (ECE) centers for teaching essential life skills–like following directions, listening, self-control, communication, and problem-solving.
Kindergarten readiness
Our investment in the Pyramid Model aligns with the Every Child Thrives network’s priority of Kindergarten Readiness.

Why Invest?

Nearly 90 percent of brain growth takes place during the first five years of life. Scientific studies from all over the world demonstrate that starting early can have major short- and long-term effects on cognitive and social-emotional development. Early learning has been linked to progress in school, increased earnings, and reductions in antisocial behavior, welfare participation, and trouble with the law.
Cognitive and non-cognitive abilities—including key workforce skills such as motivation, persistence, self-regulation, and self-control—are important for school readiness.
The good news is that we have a proven framework for creating an early learning environment that provides optimal support for this brain growth and skill building. Our goal is to make the Pyramid Model as widely available as possible in our region.

WHAT IS THE PYRAMID MODEL FRAMEWORK?

The Pyramid Model is an evidence-based framework used in early care and education (ECE) centers for teaching essential life skills–like following directions, listening, self-control, communication, and problem-solving. In a national study, the Pyramid Model demonstrated its effectiveness, leading to increases in skills and decreases in challenging classroom behaviors. Childcare centers that use the Pyramid Model may also see improvements in staff satisfaction and retention.
At the participating centers, all staff receive initial training as well as ongoing support from both internal and external coaches. The program leverages data, monthly leadership meetings, and regular coach check-ins to hardwire educational and relationship best practices. Most centers work 3 to 5 years to achieve fidelity, where Pyramid Model practices are used consistently throughout the center – all teachers, all the time.
