We challenge the boundaries of “what’s possible.” We are a catalyst for transformative change that eliminates the root cause barriers to wellbeing.
We achieve measurable impact by targeting resources where the need is greatest. Our work is fueled by data, which informs decisions, measures progress, and illuminates the needs of the community.
We equip changemakers with the tools they need to create lasting change. We listen and act with community, empowering the voices of those with lived experience.
We cultivate a network of partners who advance equity by learning together, aligning resources and integrating actions to improve the wellbeing of children and families.
Medical care and personal responsibility matter, but the conditions in which people live play a major role. Addressing these “upstream” determinants of health is an effective investment in prevention.
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
We track the percentage of annual Foundation investments targeted to support populations not currently thriving, such as low-income families and members of our Latino/Hispanic community. In 2023, 48% of grant investments supported populations not well served by current systems.
Moving our organization into alignment with health equity practices is a journey that will evolve with ongoing effort and investment. For the Foundation, the first step is to create a learning community for ourselves and our partners–a safe space in which to challenge ourselves. We acknowledge that our understanding is imperfect and, while we may make missteps along the way, our community needs us to show courage in our conversations, policies and perspectives.
Our community Scorecard is a powerful tool in our journey toward health equity, shining a light on who in our community is thriving, and who is not. By breaking the data down according to distinct groups (disaggregating the data), we can see that there are instances when certain populations are not being well-served. Disparities by race, gender and income all become easier to see… and thereby easier to effectively address.
